YOU ARE NOT THE CHURCH!

(Don’t be put off by the theme of this post and please read through for perfect understanding)

Let’s get this right!

You are NOT the Church. Neither are you the Body of Christ as a Believer. There’s no place in the bible that says that.

What the bible says is this: as an individual, you are PART of His Body.

We are MEMBERS of His Body, the Body is ONE not many:

1 Corinthians 12:12 (NKJV)

For as the body is ONE and HAS MANY MEMBERS, but all the MEMBERS of that ONE BODY, BEING MANY, are ONE BODY, so ALSO is CHRIST.

Christ is the Body

I am a member of Christ.

When we aggregate, we collectively become the Body of Christ.

Don’t confuse this with being the temple of the Holy Spirit and having the Spirit of God dwelling in you.

Let me explain:

You are like a phone who had a SIM card (Zoé - the life of God) inserted into it at salvation. All of a sudden, the phone comes alive and searches for network and connects to it.

As soon as you connect, bars appear on the screen. This informs you of your connection to the service provider alongside other phones hooked up to the same network.

So it is with you the believer. At salvation, the Holy Spirit entered your human spirit, activated it and simultaneously hooked you up the Christ-network what we call the BODY of CHRIST.

As the phone in your hand can’t say it is the phone network such as EE, Vodafone, AT&T or MTN so a believer cannot say he or she is the Body of Christ but a member.

Now here’s the reason for this post.

The Church is present wherever Christ is and Christ is present whenever and wherever the Church is.

And Jesus told us the antecedent for His presence is where two or are gathered not the singular gathering of one person. All you need for the church to be present is another believer.

Matthew 18:20 (KJV)

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

And this is why I say this:

The current lockdown is a precursor to the destabilisation of the public gathering of Believers, which, if not handled with wisdom by the body of Christ will lead to the great falling away

2 Thessalonians 2:3 (NKJV)

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,

Don’t keep away from fellowship going on online and through other medium this season, when you join, you join the Body of Christ and Christ is present.

No body part remains alive outside the body for a long time.

After the lockdown endeavour to join a small group of believers (cell or life groups depending on the nomenclature used in your denomination).

This is a call to return to the Acts of the Apostles styled ministry. Because the Body is the source of life and nourishment to the Believer.

The Body is Christ and Christ is the Vine:

John 15:1,5 (NKJV)

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Survival of any member of the Body is hinged on connection with the Vine and co-dependence on each other which includes fellowship together with one and another.

Paul warns us that this is very important in the days we live in:

Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV)

Not FORSAKING the ASSEMBLING of OURSELVES TOGETHER, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you SEE the DAY APPROACHING.
